"Slipper"? Really?

Apparently so.

It seems that ciabatta means "slipper" in Italian. Presumably because it's flat and not because Romans schlep around the palazzo in it on Saturday morning.

For reasons that are appropriately mysterious, today is Twilight Zone Day. We say mysterious because there's no connection between this date and the TZ franchise. The series did not begin or end on May 11. Nor is this the date of creator Rod Serling's birth or death. No doubt, the explanation lies in another dimension.
